PEE WEE TAEKWONDO
Kim’s Martial Arts & Fitness offers Pee Wee Taekwondo for young students aged four to seven. Classes are structured to accommodate each child’s level of coordination, balance and attention span with an emphasis on safety and fun as well as learning. Students are taught basic Taekwondo techniques, forms, terminology, and etiquette in order to prepare them for adult classes.
PEE WEE JUDO
Kim’s Martial Arts & Fitness also offers Judo instruction to students from four to seven. Students are taught falling technique, basic throws, groundwork, basic striking techniques, etiquette, Judo history and terminology. Again, classes are structured to accommodate each student’s level of coordination, balance, and attention span with an emphasis on safety and fun as well as learning.
Brazilian Jui-Jitsu (BJJ) is an effective system of modern combat with a strong emphasis on submission techniques such as joint-locks and chokes. BJJ was originally developed in the early twentieth century by Mitsuyo Maeda, a second generation student of Jigaro Kano, the founder of Judo. Since its creation, BJJ has evolved independently to become its own martial art. After immigrating to Brazil in 1914, Maeda taught his style of combat to the eldest son of his friend, Gastao Gracie, who introduced Jui-Jitsu to his brothers, leading to the close identification of BJJ with the Gracie family. The Gracie brothers opened their first Jui-Jitsu academy in Rio de Janeiro in 1925, where BJJ continued to evolve and develop to become the martial art practiced today. Kim’s Martial Arts and Fitness offers informal instruction in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu at its Cranberry location, taught by Master Eugene Kim.

Self-defense training is integrated in both Judo and Taekwondo. Students learn to apply the techniques learned through the study of these disciplines to real life situations. Judo lends itself to effective defense against close contact attacks, both while standing and on the ground. Taekwondo is particularly effective against attacks from a greater distance. Grandmaster Kim has combined the techniques of Judo and Taekwondo with those of Jui-Jitsu and Aikido to create an effective, real life system of self-defense. Judo and Taekwondo incorporate full contact sparring which enable students to acquire the skill, timing and understanding required to successfully apply self-defense techniques. All students at Grandmaster Kim’s schools learn how to fall safely, an invaluable skill in self-defense situations and in everyday life.
